What is a Nonprofit?
The word nonprofit applies to those organizations that are set up to serve the common good without profiting financially.
What is 501(c)(3) status?
A 501(c) is a nonprofit organization that is tax-exempt. Section 501(c) of the United States Internal Revenue Code allows 28 types of nonprofit organizations to be exempt from some federal income taxes. In our case we qualify as an organization type (3) Religious, Educational, Charitable, Scientific, Literary, Testing for Public Safety, to Foster National or International Amateur Sports, Competition, or Prevention of Cruelty to Children or Animals Organizations, hence the (3) after 5(c).
